: About Us :
On
Saturday, May 12, 2001, the Georgia Hispanic Network (GHNet) was formed
by a group of Hispanic professionals with diverse backgrounds looking
to establish a networking organization for Georgia Hispanics. GHNet was
given a 501(c)(6) designation by the IRS. The first major membership
drive was held on January 30, 2002 with guest speaker Sam Zamarripa.
Through a series of high quality professional events, seminars,
speakers and cultural events over the past two years, our membership
has grown from a small nucleus to over 200 members and over 3000
professionals on our mailing list.
GHNet
has had 3 very successful major fundraisers called the Annual
Celebration and Art Exhibit which have received extensive local and
national publicity. Through these fundraising efforts in 2002 GHNet was
able to donate $2,500 to the City of Atlanta Fire Department to help
train firefighters to use Spanish for emergencies. In 2003 the proceeds
were used to establish the GHNet Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization
to promote our efforts in reaching future generations. In 2004 some of
the proceeds were contributed to Junior Achievement of Georgia
(Hispanic Initiative).
Today
the Georgia Hispanic Network is one of the largest, most diverse and
highly educated Hispanic professional groups in Atlanta with members
including physicians, attorneys, sales, marketing, finance and
technology executives, CEOs, CIOs, educators, artists, professors and
entrepreneurs.
Many
fields are represented in our group including medicine, technology,
real estate, finance, banking and government. Most of our members and
attendees have 4-year college degrees and many have one or more
graduate degrees. The majority of our members are bilingual and several
speak or understand 3 or 4 languages.
In
2003 we instituted a successful Board Retreat to cover the strategic
development of our organization, crystallize the mission and vision of
the organization and chart the course for the next few years. Strategic
development retreats to insure our organization remains on course have
since become essential annual events.
